the real deal.

so. i am going to be spewing brutal truth via photographic uploads. i hate my kitchen. always have, except for those few blissful moments when we first found the house & decided to buy it. when i was under the influence of the 'love haze' we women tend to use to convince ourselves to move into homes with crap kitchens.

anyhow, this kitchen was so obviously built (i refuse to use the word designed, for there is an absolute & utter lack of the D word in the space.) by a man. a NON COOKING, NON DISH WASHING, NON DISH PUTTING AWAY, NEVER SETTING FOOT IN THE KITCHEN 1950's MAN. there is no counter space, no work triangle, & no end to my list of complaints. but you gotta deal with what youre dealt. so i have. for years. now, i hate it again, & it's time to review & reorganize. (maybe someday remodel.) with the fuel of yard sales & blogspot & lots n lots of redbull & coffee, i hereby vow to reorganize my LIFE kitchen cabinets. gotta start somewhere.

so here are the ugly uglies. i mean, befores.

just above the stove. no doors of course. we took them off when we first moved in to paint, & never got them back up. it's just something else i hate about the kitchen at this point. the worst is that everything in the cabinets gets coated in grease. yuck!

i had already started to empty it out when i remembered to go and grab the camera!
note the grease haze? blech.

enter the 'after all day' pics here:

but, what's this new development? just as i was finishing up for the day, a friend left me a wonderful prize!

the scissors were mine. arent they awesome? i paid close to nothing for them at a yard sale. i sort of just like to show off.

anyhow, since i couldnt just leave the job ~as was~ i decided to go ahead & ~finish for now~  you know what? i have an awful lot of projects that end up finished for now....but here's the goods.

so as aforementioned, this is just finished for now. i intend to spray paint all the lids to match. oh, & actually TOUCH the other shelves. but for now, im beat. i scrubbed alot of greasy jars today, yo. i gots them dishpan hands & sore soles!

art de choke

so maybe a year ago, ok, maybe even 2, i bought a big ol banged up artichoke. i have a deep love for the chokes. theyre grand. theyre lovely. theyre...vegetables?

anyhow, i was at a yard sale, & i spotted a choke from afar. i raced over, cuz i HAD to have it, & nobody better mess around & touch it, or else! of course, being the meek & non confrontational sweet spirit that i am, id have graciously congratulated the lucky party on their score. *cough* yeah rite. as if. *cough*

anyhow, (again) i made it to the table first & my heart sank a bit. it was broken. twice over. but you know what? ive been broken before, & i got fixed up, so i say, 'so what?!' i could puff new life into this pretty old banged up veg, & if i couldnt, i was positive i could spin the break to the back & no one would ever know any better. i like dirty little secrets, what can i say?

anyhow, (yes, again.) i put my guy on a high shelf, & no one had a clue. & i forgot about him. for a year. okay, maybe even 2. but, something inspired me this week, & i finally decided to art de choke. (that means paint him all sorts of pretty, in case you were wondering.)

know what? im a bad blogger. know what else? i didnt start this paragraph with anyhow. makes me just a little sad. anyhow, (haha. there it is!) as i said, bad blogger. i neglected the step by step picture process. mostly cuz it's hard to take pics with paint all over my fingers. mostly cuz i forgot. but but but, i DID manage to get the afters. so here they are.

i used craft paints Apple Barrel brand 20403 white, 20432 nutmeg brown, Folk Art brand 515 vintage white, & Behr Faux Glaze. and paper towels. LOTS of paper towels. im not quite finished with him yet. im going to repair the breaks, then do a super shiny glaze over all, but for rite now, i am quite content with him. to me he says, 'no matter where youve been, what damage youve taken, nothing can stop you from being beautiful. there is a Master Artist waiting & wanting to give you new Life. to lose our scars is to lose our testament of who we were & who we have become.' but that seems a lil heavy for a blog about artichokes.

So here i am.

as the title reads, & as you see, i have come forth unto blogspot, in order to end the torture of my non-craft obsessed facebook friends. but the first post shall be fairly less than monumental. im tired. it's late. my foot is cold, cuz one birkenstock croc ~{which is a long story in itself}~ seems to have run away, & im longing for the cozy cuddles & huggles of a *wee widdle wun* who now goes by the name Henry Hopper Rivers.

til then ~SsS

ps. tomorrow promises the story of the boobs. you know you want to know.
